Former Governor Okoth Obado is awaiting sentencing on September 16, 2026, after being found guilty of Sharon’s murder.
During the pre-sentencing social inquiry, Obado’s defence team told Principal Magistrate Cecilia Githua that, before Sharon’s death, the former governor had offered her a house and land worth KSh3.5 million.
The offer reportedly came after Sharon had requested a house valued at between KSh20 million and KSh25 million in Homa Bay, alongside a luxury vehicle and a well-paying job.
However, the defence submissions did not convince the court. Justice Cecilia Githua reportedly found that the KSh3.5 million housing offer was not a genuine gesture of support to Sharon, who was then Obado’s girlfriend, but rather an insincere attempt to delay the situation.
According to the court, Obado’s promise was allegedly intended to buy time and persuade Sharon to give in to pressure to terminate the pregnancy she was carrying, which was about seven months along.
The court further found that plans to kill Sharon were subsequently set in motion, culminating in her murder in September 2018.
Meanwhile, emerging reports indicate that Sharon’s family is seeking a fully furnished house, which Obado had allegedly promised her, as part of ongoing reconciliation efforts.
The family reportedly believes the settlement could help pave the way for leniency as Obado appeals for a non-custodial sentence.
In addition to the house, Sharon’s family is also said to be seeking a car and a parcel of land as part of the proposed reconciliation arrangement.
