Sifuna arrived in Meru on Sunday, August 30, alongside Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya for the Linda Mwananchi grassroots rally ahead of the 2027 General Election.
While photos of him receiving a month's supply of yams went viral, the most striking gifts were a 6kg gas cylinder boldly written "Ruto must go" and a sufuria carrying the movement's paybill number for contributions.
The symbolism was hard to miss. In Kiirua, where he addressed residents, Sifuna had spoken about the high cost of living and how families are struggling to afford basic commodities like cooking gas.
Residents said the sufuria and the gas cylinder represented the pain of ordinary Kenyans who can no longer afford to put food on the table.
The gifts were handed over shortly after former Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza welcomed the team to the county. Mwangaza, who was impeached in 2024, is now plotting a political comeback in 2027 under the Linda Mwananchi movement.
Taking to X, Sifuna thanked Mwangaza for the warm reception, writing, "Meru hoyeee!"
The Meru incident comes days after Sifuna was gifted cash by supporters in Bungoma, showing his growing popularity at the grassroots.
It also comes barely two weeks after the Linda Mwananchi team was violently attacked in Homa Bay.
In related news, Siaya Governor James Orengo, another principal of the movement, was attacked in Migori after making an impromptu visit to the county. His vehicle was sprayed with live bullets before being torched in Awendo.
